You will discover Ponta do Pargo where the coastline was too dangerous for navigation and a lighthouse, the highest one in Portugal, was built on top of the rock. Continue to Paúl do Mar, a charming fishing village, and the neighboring Jardim do Mar, which are privileged spots for surfers who can challenge the waves, considered to be one of the best in Europe.

Get to know Calheta where Zarco, the Portuguese explorer who established settlements and recognition of Madeira, entered when he went ashore. Visit the rum factory "Sociedade de Engenhos da Calheta" where you can observe the machinery used for the production of rum and sugarcane honey. You will also taste some traditional honey cake which is typical of Poncha.
