What to expect

The Es Cana Hippy Market is the stuff of legend. Swing back to the Sixties at this treasure trove of cubby-hole stalls, where your batik fantasies clash in a cloud of incense. Ibiza's number one and original hippy market, it has refused to move with the times. The stands are piled high with authentic and retro items, everything from kaleidoscope kaftans to beads and bangles. Silke, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘The market is full of creative artisans and artistes, not just selling their wares but performing music. It's an eclectic and electric experience for all the family.'

A wide variety of products are on offer, from handstitched leather bags and a huge range of jewellery right through to homewares such as hand-woven baskets and art prints. Clothing is also highly sought-after, and there's no shortage of cool, beach-ready apparel. Prices are reasonable for such unique and often handcrafted items. Silke adds, ‘In 1973, the hotel invited hippy artisans to sell their wares to guests. Today, there are more than 450 stalls. You'll find stands selling white dresses and shirts – the typical Adlib Ibiza style, which was created during the hippy movement and is still very popular.'

If you fancy just sitting back to soak up the atmosphere, there's food and drink for all tastes in the foodie areas. There are even activities for the kids and a playground for your little ones. Even if you're eyeing not buying, the psychedelic time travel is worth the visit alone.

Formentera and s’Espalmador Catamaran Cruise with BBQ

This is a day dedicated to pure relaxation in arguably the most exotic waters in the Mediterranean. You'll drift over from Ibiza in a catamaran, scooting by the islands of Formentera and s'Espalmador for some well-deserved sunbathing and swimming. There's a barbecue lunch on board, too, so everything's taken care of. Antoni, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘I'm from the Balearics, and even for me, s'Espalmador is a dream. A virgin islet surrounded by clean waters and untouched by civilisation.'Leaving the sun-kissed shores of Ibiza behind, you'll skim the surface of the azure Med as you sail towards s'Espalmador. You'll moor up so that you can step off the catamaran and explore the isle's Insta-perfect powder-white beach or cool down with a swim as your crew gets lunch underway. This uninhabited island is surrounded by a string of smaller islets, and the channel separating it from Formentera is so shallow that you can wade over.Back on board, you'll get to tuck into a barbecue, accompanied by salad and fresh fruit, all made from locally sourced ingredients. Then, hop on over to Formentera, Ibiza's tropical little sister, for another swim. This exclusive island has managed to stay under the radar despite being ringed by enticing fluorescent seas and rocky inlets. To protect the submarine eco-system, especially the fragile underwater posidonia meadows, the boat doesn't anchor, and no plastics are used on board.

Paella-cooking and tapas workshop in Ibiza with lunch and wine

Ibiza is well known for its parties, beaches and beautiful resorts, but on this trip, you'll peel back a whole new layer of this white isle. On this culinary adventure, you'll learn to cook the iconic Spanish dish, paella, with a seasoned chef leading the way. You'll head to a rustic restaurant, just 15 minutes from Talamanca on the east coast, and shown to your own fully equipped workstation. Then, channel your inner Gordon Ramsey, as you use the freshest ingredients to create your masterpiece, with a glass of wine in hand to help the creative juices flow. The chef will be there to guide you every step of the way with technical advice, but more importantly, he'll share what it means to create food that brings people together. Finally, you'll gather around a beautifully set table to share your freshly made paella with your fellow cooks. This is what it's all about, experiencing the camaraderie that Spanish families traditionally enjoy together at mealtimes – it makes the food taste even better. As a sweet finale to the meal, you'll be served the traditional digestive, hierbas. You'll head back with more than just memories of a great day, but the ability to make a top-notch paella, and the urge to gather your friends and family back home to enjoy it together, Ibiza-style.
