An amazing day. Well organised with interesting stops. The stand out destination was definitely the cave village of Chenini - this deserved a much longer visit - with less time in the town of Tataouine maybe - where there was very little to see. The included lunch was atmospheric and tasty in an authentic local restaurant. You do need to have comfy flat shoes and to be able to climb uphill to appreciate Chenini. It is a long day - and a good 2 to 3 hour drive back to Djerba.
Benefit from a morning pick-up from your accommodation by a friendly driver. After a short presentation, set off to discover the wonders of Southern Tunisia. Start your trip by leaving the island of Djerba, take an ancient Roman road and take wonderful vacation photos of Chahbania along the way. Continue to Tataouine, the town that gave its name to the planet Tatooine in the Star Wars saga, and enjoy free time to stroll around the market and practice negotiating with the merchants.
Then continue your journey towards the Berber village of Chenini which offers a view of the mountain and stay there for approximately 1 hour with your local guide. This guide will be happy to introduce you to the different buildings that make up the village, such as the oil mill, the mosque, the houses dug into the mountains, and much more. Then enjoy a delicious local meal. From there, continue to Ksar Ouled Soltane, where some scenes from the Star Wars film "The Phantom Menace" were filmed. To end this fantastic day, return to Djerba in an air-conditioned vehicle.
