When you think of Egypt, what comes to mind first? It’s hard to imagine anything other than the astounding magnitude of the Pyramids of Giza and the monumental Great Sphinx of Giza. These archaeological wonders are found at the Giza pyramid complex, also known as the Giza Necropolis or the Giza Plateau, approximately 13 km southwest of Cairo. Listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1979, the Pyramids of Giza and the Great Sphinx regularly draw in millions of curious tourists from around the world.
Egypt’s Pyramids of Giza are made up of 3 massive pyramids, the Pyramid of Menkaure, Pyramid of Khafre, and the Pyramid of Khufu, the last also commonly being referred to simply as the Great Pyramid of Giza for its immense height. All were painstakingly built during the fourth dynasty of ancient Egypt for the ruling pharaohs at the time, hence their names. No one knows for sure exactly how they were built, but one thing’s for certain: the Pyramids of Giza continue to faithfully preserve the genuine essence of Egypt.
A veil of mystery also surrounds the towering Great Sphinx of Giza that stands guard over the tombs on the east side of the Giza pyramid complex. The world-famous limestone statue of a recumbent sphinx is one of the oldest, largest, and most recognisable sculptures in the world. Most believe the sculpture’s head is modelled after Egyptian pharaoh Khafre, although the nose was subsequently destroyed for unknown reasons. Nonetheless, the Great Sphinx remains a magnificent emblem of Egypt.

“I had a message the day before saying that the grand museum and King tut show wasn't available it would be the old museum and pyramids only. We were quite upset as we paid a lot to see the new museum and its not even open yet. Our guide was lovely very knowledgeable and kept us safe. A very long day overall we did have the option to pay an extra £10 each on the day for a short nile cruise which was very nice.”
“The trip was amazing but the organisation at Sharm Airport was awful, we were just left and no one told us where we needed to be. I think there should be some snacks on the coach (either included or to purchase) as the gap between the start of the trip and lunch is huge. Overall the trip was very well organised and we were able to see many of the sights with an amazing tour guide. Clearer safety measures should be explained before arriving at the pyramids as tourists are high risk.”
“This was a private tour. The guide was good. Then took us to a perfume shop. The doors closed abd made to feel obligated to buy to leave. Most distressing. The similar with papyrus shop. Then amazing left in car with driver and taken to airport. We stayed in car until met by a representative. So would not recommend paying the extra.”
“2nd visit & 1st with Daughter. Positive - guide & driver excellent. Issues 1. Even though calling TUI Exp 3 X no conf by email. 2. Assured on a call water bottles will be supplied - nope had to buy own so very poor for a 20 hr day in 36 degree heat! 3. Booked & confirmed two weeks before holiday - evening before flying told no space & had to pick another day which messed other excursions. 4. Most of the artifacts from the museum have been moved to the new museum so not as good as 1st viisit”
