Built in Manama in the late 20th century and officially opened in 1984, the architectural masterpiece is an intriguing blend of traditional Islamic and modern styles. It’s made of white marble and is crowned with the world’s large fiberglass dome, which you can see from almost anywhere in the city.
Open to visitors of all faiths, the mosque is more than just a place of worship – it also serves as a cultural and educational centre for the community. With a library, multiple classrooms and a conference space, it’s a popular place for lectures and workshops. There’s also a courtyard, used for outdoor prayer and other religious ceremonies. You can take a guided tour to learn about its history and architecture, and to admire the spectacular tilework and calligraphy inside.
