What to expect

Embark on a day of discovery with a morning visit to El Escorial and Valley, followed by an afternoon in Segovia. Depart from Madrid in a comfortable coach with an official guide, setting off towards the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Royal Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial. During the journey, the guide will provide a rich historical context for this 16th-century monastery, commissioned by Philip II. Upon arrival, you'll be taken on a tour through various sections of the complex, including the Royal Palace, Basilica, and Pantheon of Kings. Marvel at the austere grandeur of the monastery's architecture and its impressive collection of artworks, featuring pieces by El Greco and Titian.

The next stop is Valle de los Caídos (Valley of the Fallen), a monumental complex nestled in the Madrid mountains, built to honour those who fell during the Spanish Civil War. Explore the Basilica, an awe-inspiring structure carved into rock, and the outdoor esplanade crowned by a towering 150-meter-high cross. After returning to Madrid, there will be free time for lunch before setting off for Segovia.

In Segovia, take a walking tour through the historic centre's cobblestone streets. Admire exterior views of iconic monuments such as the Roman Aqueduct, Casa de los Picos, San Martín Church, the Gothic Cathedral, and lastly, the Alcázar - a former fortified residence of Spanish royalty.

This comprehensive day trip offers a deep dive into Spain's rich history and architectural splendour.
