What to expect

With vividly coloured houses lining the seafront and the banks of the dried-up river bed, it's no wonder Villajoyosa means ‘the Joyful Town'. Find out why it attracts and inspires scores of artists with this trip from Benidorm. You'll also visit the famous Valor Chocolate museum to see their age-old chocolate-making methods and sample some of their well-loved products.

You'll begin the tour in Villajoyosa - a quirky town known best for its brightly-coloured fishermen's houses, golden beaches and freshly-caught seafood. Enjoy some free time to stroll its labyrinth of narrow winding cobbled streets, or head to the seafront to watch the fishing boats come in.

Then, it's on to Valor Chocolate museum. Here, you'll tour its installations and see chocolate-making methods used since 1881, before a chance to sample some chocolatey treats yourself.

Great trip chocolate factory. Chocolate a lot cheaper than at airport. Villajoyosa Is a stunning area with plenty of choice for a quick refreshment break. Not long enough for a lunch if you want to walk about.

Can't rate the guide as he wasn't with us in either the chocolate factory or town. Duration a bit misleading as I left at 9:30 and got back at 2. Can't see how it would ever be as short as 2 hours. Loved the coloured houses and glorious promenade.

The factory tour would have been better if we hadn't been rushed. The day would have been better if we had more time to spend in villajoyosa. Felt that a good part of the day was spent on the coach due to pick ups. Perhaps if there was a centralised pick up point it would save time and allow for more time to be spent in the destination

It's lights out and away you go for an adrenaline-pumping karting session in Benidorm. For the kids, there's a children's kart with one or two seats at a gentler pace. Slightly older ones can have a go at the junior karts that are a little more powerful around the one-kilometre circuit. While as adults, you'll have the choice of two engine sizes in your kart, depending on how much you want to channel your inner Lewis Hamilton around the ten corners. And if one session of ten minutes is only warming you up, there's an option to book two sessions for twice the thrill.

Villajoyosa seaside town trip from Benidorm

If you're after a shot of authentic Spanish culture, then hop onboard a private bus from Benidorm to the laid-back seaside town of Villajoyosa. Then it's on to Villajoyosa. The name means ‘The Joyful Town', and its collage of colourful coastal houses certainly reflect that. They were originally painted such vibrant colours to help fishermen spot their homes from the sea. You'll have plenty of free time here to check out the promenade, stroll through the pretty streets and pop into one of the seafront cafes.
